I’m getting there. I can’t paint a straight line to save my life but it’s looking pretty good. I hated the vampire mask I was going to paint. But it feels weird and loaded to not paint a head. I’ll figure it out. Frustrated

That “interesting” feeling when you gesso over a painting on a $500 canvas only to remember in the middle of the night that the background was all done in oil paint. Not happy is putting it mildly.

Went to @mattieleedspottery ’s for Doon Arts today. Creature 2 got a pig pot. First pic is of Creature 1 in 2017. Mattie showed me what he’s been working on lately: wild, dysfunctional, some figurative, pots. Super inspiring!
Started a new painting tonight and I don’t paint faces very often but I’m just in love with this one. Looks haunted to me.

The Story of an Art Scam

Someone tried to scam me this week. 

I received this email earlier this week through the contact form on this site:  
Name: john glenn
Email Address: johnglenn1001@gmail.com
Subject: artwork is needed
Message: Greetings!
My name is john glenn from SC. I actually observed my wife has been viewing your website on my laptop and i guess she likes your piece of work, I'm also impressed and amazed to have seen your various works too, : ) You are doing a great job. I would like to receive further information about your piece of work and what inspires you. I am very much interested in the purchase of the piece (in subject field above) to surprise my wife. Kindly confirm the availability for immediate sales.

"john" picked out a painting and agreed to the price. I wrote that I could invoice him through Square, but he insisted on sending a check. I have had almost this exact email come from a legit buyer and that communication resulted in a successful sale.  It all seemed fine until I got this email:

Hello: Emerson Murray
Thanks for the message,  I must tell you I intend to give my wife a surprise with the immediate purchase of the piece. Also If you'd like to know, I'm relocating to the Philippines soon and our wedding anniversary is fast approaching. So I'm trying to gather some good stuff to make this event a surprise one. I am buying the art work Silence Falls: 36"x36" 

 as a gifts to her.I'm okay with the price, I think it's worth it anyway, so I'll be sending a check. As regarding shipping, you don't have to worry about that in order not to leave any clue to my wife for the surprise. as soon as you receive and cash the check, my shipping agent (who is also moving my personal effect) will contact you to arrange pick-up.

I would have come to purchase the piece myself but, at the moment, am on training voyage to the North Atlantic Ocean (I'm an ocean engineer) with new hires who are fresh from graduate school and won't be back for another couple of weeks.

PS: In the meantime, kindly get back to me with your full name (you want the check payable to) cell phone no. and contact address (preferably for Ups ,fedEx not P.O box) where a check can be mailed to, so I can get the check prepared and have it mailed out to you right away.
